My story
Liam Moskvitch
My name is Liam and I am 12 years old. I have cerebral palsy. My parents discovered this when I was about 3 years old.
Ever since I was 3 years old I have been going to the Spastic Centre for things such as speech, physio and occupational therapy.
Now I’m doing things such as swimming, scouts and school.
CP can be difficult in some ways such as doing stuff with kids that don’t have a disability, talking to people, meeting new people, schoolwork and getting around sometimes.
Kids sometimes say to me that they wish that they had a disability but trust me they don’t because of all the disadvantages of having a disability. And I say back to them that they don’t want one.
People sometimes think that I don’t think the same as others but inside I’m just another normal person thinking about maths, english, etc.
I have been doing scouts for quite a few years now and scouts have taught me to be a little more independent, make more friends and accomplish tasks that I would probably not have tried before. Scouts do hikes, camps, things like that but they work around my disability and include me in. I really like scouts because it makes me feel away from my disability.
At school I’m in the choir. I enjoy choir because lots of the music cheers me up. I love to sing in front of an audience. I think it opens me to people when they say “Great Job Liam!”. I have friends at school that help me with various things, setting up and shutting down my laptop, things like that to help me.
